"The Seventh" is a 32 level megawad being written by Michael Reid, better known as Prower. But instead of making us wait years for it to be released, he is releasing it one level at a time, so we can play it as he writes it. Sounds like a good idea to me, it certainly beats waiting for any of these other big projects to finish.
So how does the first level shape up? Well, it's a very small base style level with quite good architecture: there are railway tracks, beams, lighting and other details. There were a some places in the level that needed more detail though. There is new music too.
There are 3 keys, but each is pretty quick to get; there are a few tough monsters but enough ammo and space to deal with them easily. It's a short workout in Doom terms, only 5 minutes to play through, one small trap and nothing else. You have to ask why 3 keys are needed at a level this small.
Well, it's not bad for a first level of an episode, but hardly gripping to play either.
