Review by Colin Phipps

"CRESTFALLEN" is a small level for Doom 2. The action centres on a single small room, which is the scene of lots of really tight fights; you start off in this room with just a beserk and a load of imps, but that is the least of the fights, believe me :-).

The level is made up of a small number of quite small rooms, linked via teleports. There is a lot of detail, with lights, metal beams, and the teleport portals like in Quake. There may not be much to this level, but the atmosphere is good and that's what counts.

It might be small but you certainly won't be bored playing this level. I don't think there was a single ordinary fight: they are all cramped for space, with very limited ammo and weapons. That doesn't mean the monsters are made weaker; there are some pretty tough enemies in this place. A couple of the fights took me 2 or 3 attempts to get right, there isn't much room for error. If you find a good tactic you'll get through, otherwise you'll have a hard time completing the level.

This is a short but fun level to play, definitely worth half an hour of any Doomer's time I think. Be prepared for a hard fight though.
