Review by Colin Phipps

DIEYOUNG is a large Knee-Deep style WAD. The early part of the level is mainly decorated with STARTAN textures, and looks very tacky. This early part is central to the whole level, so as a result this spoils the whole level for me.

The other areas are better, with some better choice of textures, but there are still some odd texture choices and poor texture alignments which detract from the atmosphere of the level.

Fortunately the gameplay is better. There are many interesting features, such as bars raising/lowering behind you when you enter an area, which make the fights more intense. Throughout the level there was a good mix of monsters, plenty of traps, and some good secrets.

However, the level progression is not always clear. Sometimes I was confused as to what things I was doing were secrets, and what were part of the main level progression. Also, I got a bit annoyed by some of the switch activated doors, which always seemed to be closing just as I reached them :-). Still it added interest to the fights I suppose.

There is already some detail and good gameplay here, but without some proper texturing this level will never be a favorite with me. If this were one of my levels, I'd wipe all the textures and do them again; with some work this could be a good level.
