screenshot This level is a bit of an odd one out in the KBoom series - it's more like a forerunner of the KHills series. The main area of the level is outdoors, in a large valley with a castle, and some sort of nukage processing base behind it. The valley walls either side are manned by hell knights and chaingunners, which have to be picked off. In the center of the valley is a lake (with deep water, courtesy of Boom) - I liked the monsters below the surface, they made the outdoor fight quite fun, but once you get into the lake there are only a few places you can get out, and it was a bit frustrating having to run around the sides trying to find these.

The opening fight is great - you have to pick off the overlooking monsters, and deal with the wandering cacos and other troops on the ground at the same time. The outdoor area is very large, so you have to keep an eye out for distant shots too. I enjoyed myself for a while getting them fighting each other - I always like sending cacodemons up to deal with those imps on awkward ledges, but in this level I had the extra fun of getting a load of cacodemons and mancubi fighting (that started quite a colourful exchange).

There is plenty of health and ammo through most of the level, but I did find I needed most of it for the final area. Aside from the annoying detour needed to get around the lake, the level progression is interesting - at the start you deal with many monsters on a ledge, then later on you go back and find a way up is now open.

There are plenty of good fights and traps at this level. The only critisism I have is that the final fights were a bit of a grind, lots of barons and hell knights to shotgun (although maybe if I'd been less wasteful earlier I would've had some more rockets to go around). Overall though, I really enjoyed this one.
