I don't know how he does it; it takes me about 6 months to write a good WAD, but Kurt Kesler is making them as fast as I play them! This is yet another from his great KBOOM series designed specifically for the Boom engine.

screenshot The level once again makes good use of the extended features of Boom. The elevators and underwater areas are used well in this level to add interest to the traps and level progression.

Basic enemies are well mixed with the more powerful opposition throughout the level, which makes the fights a lot more tactical and interesting. I particularly liked some of the later traps, which used some excellent combinations of mixed groups of monsters and good level design to give some fun & tricky fights.

Health and ammo were well judged throughout. According to the accompanying TXT file; I thought it was pretty well judged. My only complaint is that there were 3 medikits very close together over on one side of the level, so I had to go back a couple of times to find them. Apart from this the level progression is very good, a good balance of simple and interesting.

Architecturally the level is superb. Most of the rooms have plenty of good internal features, and the commanding balconies add a good sense of style as well as some good fights. There is plenty of detail throughout the level, so none of the rooms are boring. There are plenty of Kurt's characteristically excellent lighting effects too.

This is easily the best WAD I have played in a long time. A must-have download for anyone with Boom, I'd say.
