SPOOKY05 is yet another in this great series of Ultimate Doom levels. The theme is a bit different from the earlier levels, because lots of Heretic/Hexen textures are imported to give the level a more medieval feel. The architecture is great, with lots of features like battlements, windows between areas, acid/water areas, and a good scaffold at the start. There are lots of good features like crates, barrels, and a good scaffold at the start. Also the lighting was very well done; I really liked the way things started out fairly light, and got darker as you got deeper into the level.
There is no shortage of gameplay either. For me, ammo was very tight for the first 2/3rds of the level, but if you get monsters fighting each other, and make good use of the barrels and your few rockets, then it works out well. There is an excellent mix of monsters, good monster placement, and some good traps.
There is an excellent cyberdemon trap (they do exist you know ;-) near the end; I was almost laughing while playing it, very nicely done. The level is very non-linear, several times I looked at the map thinking "where next?", but always the way forward nearby and clear. There are a couple of secrets too.
Well this already great series is getting better. I can't wait for the next installment :-).
